Doubt in God is our enemy because it keeps us from receiving all of God’s goodness. The Bible says: “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him. But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea that is driven and tossed by the wind. For that person must not suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” (James‬ ‭1:5-8‬) When God is not our primary advisor–in all matters–it’s an indication of how little we trust Him. If we don’t trust Him enough to ask from Him–how do we expect to receive the goodness He has planned?

Trusting God opens us up to fully receive the immense blessings of His wisdom, strength and love. He gives “generously to all without reproach” when we “ask in faith with no doubting.” In other words, we must ask like a trusting child. When our children ask us for guidance, love or help, we don’t scold them. We want them to have the best! Furthermore, we’d be insulted if our child doubted our ability to help, love or guide them. So why do we doubt God, our Almighty Father? Short answer: We don’t know Him well enough and we don’t recognize all He does for us!

God consistently provides for our daily needs. We don’t give much thought to where our next breath will come from or how the sun will rise tomorrow–but none of it happens by accident. All the good in our life we take for granted requires God’s power. And–He longs to give us so much more than the basics! As we study His Word and seek His way, we begin to know Him intimately. As we get to know Him, we learn He is trustworthy. Soon, we begin to seek Him–in all situations. When we trust Him He consistently gives us His wisdom, power and love in ways we never imagined!
