One of our deepest longings is to be completely loved. When we know we’re loved for being exactly who God made us–instead of our accomplishments, outward appearance, or possessions–we’re free to reach our potential. Being loved like this makes us unafraid to address our defects for fear we will be rejected. Furthermore, we’re not locked in our past failure and so we live freely in the present. Jesus is the friend who loves us completely.

On the night before He sacrificed His life for us, Jesus heart was bared in His prayer for us: “The glory that you have given me I have given to them, that they may be one even as we are one, I in them and you in me, that they may become perfectly one, so that the world may know that you sent me and loved them even as you loved me. Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me. I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.” (John‬ ‭17:22-26‬)‬‬ Such unspeakably amazing love! Jesus knew it would cost Him His life for us to have friendship with His Father. He knew everything terrible about us, but He thought we were worth His death. Words are inadequate to describe His love!

When we become God’s children, we obtain the full acceptance of God. Thus, we can love others without regret or fear. We can love like Jesus. When we know Him, we learn to live in the confidence of who He made us instead of the uncertainty of who we wish we were. We are free to love, because we are loved. When we know God we know love!
