When we are God’s children, we serve others because we love Him. We don’t do it for recognition, self-satisfaction, self-worth or any reason except–to please God. That’s what love is–pleasing the One who loves us more than we can comprehend. When we serve others, we’re serving to please Him because He has given us more than we ever imagined.

Jesus explained loving service when He spoke about the final judgement. He describes a conversation in heaven where His children ask Him: “Lord, when did we see you hungry and feed you, or thirsty and give you drink? And when did we see you a stranger and welcome you, or naked and clothe you? And when did we see you sick or in prison and visit you?” The Lord answered them: “Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brothers, you did it to me.” (Matthew‬ ‭25:37-40‬)‬‬ When we are God’s children, we’re transformed by His grace which produces gratefulness. It inspires good works. Our service to others is evidence of our pure love for Him.

When our motive for serving others is our love for God, our service to others is purified. We lose any expectation of receiving anything in return because God has already given us more than we ever expected. People in need become opportunities to please God. We should seize the day! There are many, many opportunities everywhere we go to serve and make a difference in someone else’s life. God makes such an amazing difference in ours!
