Unbelief builds a wall between us and God’s power. It bridles God’s power in our life and trashes the most incredible opportunities. For example, unbelief prevented the disciples from healing an epileptic boy and it placed the Israelites on a forty year delay from entering the promised land! (Matthew 17:14-20 and Hebrews 3:16-19) The disciples and the Israelites had witnessed the miracles of God, yet they failed to believe in His power for themselves. We do the same thing.

We witness miracles every day and struggle with unbelief. Life is a miracle and the sunrise is a miracle! Do we honestly believe that the complex systems of earth and in the heavens just somehow happen–without God? They happen whether or not we believe in God. Yet, we place far more trust in the less miraculous inventions of man! Think about it–who do we seek first for every problem, need or for direction? Is it God? Sadly, most of us don’t. When choose unbelief, we forfeit the miracles of His power. Even the hometown crowd where Jesus grew up struggled with unbelief–and it prohibited them from receiving all His miracles. (Matthew 13:58) There are never enough miracles to satisfy a doubting heart! The Bible warns us about unbelief: “Take care, brothers, lest there be in any of you an evil, unbelieving heart, leading you to fall away from the living God.” (Hebrews‬ ‭3:12‬)

We must remember that no one has earned our trust more than God. He sacrificed everything to secure our eternity! The key to building belief in God is in spending time with Him. When we build our relationship with Him, trust becomes very personal. However, if we neglect time with Him, unbelief lurks nearby, waiting to rob us of that trusted friendship. There are no shortcuts to friendship with God. The better we know Him–the more we trust Him. God is trustworthy.
