Are we living like we’re dead? When our soul and spirit are born again, they are made incorruptible. (1 Peter 1:3-4) However, our flesh is determined to destroy the wonderful life God has planned for us. Paul described this war: “So I find this law at work: Although I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in me, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within me.” (Romans‬ ‭7:21-23‬)

We have a choice.

My experience living after the flesh was horrible. It was like I was engaged in a bloody battle against evil with no armor, no weapons, no comrades and no cover. All I could do was run scared, dodge bullets, and hope I blended in with the enemy enough to be invisible. I certainly wasn’t helping win the war! I followed my fleshly desires because I thought God’s way meant I’d miss the fun. I failed to recognize that God created a desire within me for joy much deeper than fleshly happiness! My pursuit of the flesh took me lower and lower and I needed more and more to be satisfied. After I hit rock bottom, I saw the wretched person I’d become. That’s when I turned to God. I didn’t ask Him to change me into a spirit filled Christian. I didn’t even know what that meant. I just asked Him for help because that’s all I knew to do. Ever since, God has been teaching me the benefits of living in His Spirit.

Living close to God, my battle against evil isn’t any less intense–I just have better weapons. God is my protector. When I’m doing what’s right, my hands are free from the chains of sin. He gives me His strength, wisdom and love! I have His peace in the battle. Sure, I still war with my flesh, but it’s different now. He makes all the difference. I live passionately. I’m no longer living like the walking dead. The Bible says: “For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.” (Romans 8:6) To live in The Spirit is to live like we’re alive!
