Wealth can make a fool out of us. Jesus described the rich man, who laid up treasures for himself only to die and leave it all behind for someone else as “a fool.” (Luke 12:20-21) If attaining earthly blessings are our ultimate goal, then we are very foolish indeed! At the end of his life, Solomon–the guy who had it all–wrote: “Vanity of vanities, says the Preacher, vanity of vanities! All is vanity. What does man gain by all the toil at which he toils under the sun? All things are full of weariness; a man cannot utter it; the eye is not satisfied with seeing, nor the ear filled with hearing. What has been is what will be, and what has been done is what will be done, and there is nothing new under the sun. And I applied my heart to know wisdom and to know madness and folly. I perceived that this also is but a striving after wind.” (Ecclesiastes‬ ‭1:2-3, 8-9, 17‬) http://bible.com/59/ecc.1.2-3,8-9,17.esv

If we want to live wisely, we must seek God who gives wisdom. He designed us to be filled with himself—not to be filled with things that leave us hungry for more! The Bible says: ”Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.” (Colossians 3:2) Nothing in this world will ever satisfy us. We shouldn’t be deceived into settling for anything less than the best! So–how was our time spent yesterday? Was it spent seeking the physical blessings of this world without consideration as to how they could be used for God’s glory?

Our material blessings produce a double blessing when we enjoy them while we use them for God’s Glory! When we invest the blessings of earth into the hearts of people, we reap the blessings of heaven. The decision to pursue God’s blessings is made daily—in our homes, jobs, communities and beyond. Jesus said our treasure is where our heart is. When we live for His glory, we have the opportunity to possess eternal treasures. Don’t be a fool and settle for less than God’s best. Living for His glory is the wisest investment we ever make!
