Imagine this scene: Two armies engaged in combat on a battlefield to win the right for their King to rule. The warriors who fight for the King of Darkness fight with vengeance because they are slaves and he tortures them if they don’t. They live, breathe and eat–to win the battle! The warriors who fight for the King of Light are free; however, only a few love their King enough to fight with all their might. Many only fight part time, when they feel like it, when it’s convenient, when they have nothing else to do, when they feel guilty for not doing their share—because–their King doesn’t force them to fight. Even though the King of Light wins the war, many lives perish unnecessarily. After the war, the warriors see pictures of the millions who perished because they failed to be fully engaged in the war. The King asks them: “Was what you chose to do–instead of being engaged in battle–worth these lives?”

What a challenge for us! Are we off the battlefield because we are–fearful, having fun, making ends meet, pursuing the world, caught up in drama, etc.? The forces of evil are serious about winning! When we get close to God, He clears out the darkness and we see the battlefield as He does. We see the emptiness of the enslaved souls around us who are slipping off to eternal damnation. We are in a life and death battle and we mustn’t fool around with our time or our weapons. The Bible challenges us: “Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.” (‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:14-18‬a) http://bible.com/59/eph.6.14-18.esv Jesus lived and died by this code of love and and honor. His sacrifice on the battlefield won our freedom. Will we choose to live and die by the same code of love and honor?
