My service to God tends to slack off when things are good; but when I have trouble, it intensifies. Why? Shouldn’t it be the opposite? My office manager and I were discussing this phenomena in the context of our office finances. During lean financial times, we were tuned into God’s direction and when cash was rolling in–we were less so. Also, in the lean times, we saw Him do more than just financial miracles. His Spirit was so intense that clients saw the difference and were drawn to Him. What we realized, is that if financial difficulty was keeping us close to God–then perhaps, we should rethink our relationship with HIm. We wanted to intensely experience Him–ALL the time! Thus, we needed to readjust our mentality to seek God–for everything–not just when we were desperate! It has been life-changing.

You see, God’s presence inspires Divine passion to glorify Him–irrespective of circumstances. Paul the Apostle said: “And now, behold, I am going to Jerusalem, constrained by the Spirit, not knowing what will happen to me there, except that the Holy Spirit testifies to me in every city that imprisonment and afflictions await me. But I do not account my life of any value nor as precious to myself, if only I may finish my course and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the gospel of the grace of God.” (Acts‬ ‭20:22-24‬) Paul got it right. His physical well-being was unimportant when compared to the great mission of God’s grace. He lived in reality. As a result, God gave Paul a life filled with extraordinary adventure and opportunity!

Service to God shouldn’t be limited by our circumstances, because He is not limited by them. And–the fewer obstacles, the more distance we can cover in the race! We were created to live victoriously. Victory comes from God. God is the only one who can make something out of nothing; but to be something–we must be emptied of everything. We are nothing without Him but we can be anything–with Him! It shouldn’t take hard times to awaken us to our need for God. He gave us today–and with Him–we have the opportunity to live meaningfully!
