“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ.” (Ephesians 1:3) http://bible.com/1/eph.1.3.kjv Spiritual blessings come in many forms, however, they are without exception, the most coveted blessings. They continue to give us joy even long after we’ve received them. For example, every time I think of my nephew, Patrick—I am blessed all over again. It doesn’t matter how much time passes, the blessing of his adoption gives me the same priceless joy. Watching the love and joy in Thomas and Arielle, and the smile for miles that lights up the face of Patrick’s grandmother, Laah–nearly bursts my heart. Patrick’s adoption is a blessing that keeps blessing! I have no doubt that Patrick is growing up discovering a relationship with Jesus. God planned to give little Patrick to Thomas and Arielle and I almost missed the blessing of helping it come to pass because I was having a really bad day when the phone call came in. I still shudder to think about how different things could have been had God not touched my heart during that funk and prompted me to return that call!
When we get bogged down in physical problems, we can miss out on priceless spiritual blessings. The Bible says: “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.” (1 Corinthians 2:9) The day this call came in I was sitting in my music room, broken hearted about a personal situation. I wasn’t praying or seeking God’s help–I was feeling sorry for myself. At that moment, I wasn’t “loving God,” but in His mercy and grace, God’s Spirit moved within me. God taught me an amazing lesson that day.
His blessings flow to us when we love Him. Even when we love Him–we still stumble–and then, His merciful love bridges the gap. What a lesson! There is NOTHING in this world worth exchanging for God’s blessings! Patrick will always be a humbling reminder to me of how God allows even the most flawed of His children to partake in His most enduring blessings! I don’t want to miss even one–do you?
