The majority of my clients are seeking my legal advice in the lowest valleys of their life. They are afraid, uncertain and hurt and need assurance that everything is going to be ok. I often tell them: “Your legal problems aren’t hard for God.” While I can’t give them 100% certainty about the outcome of the legal issue, I can give them certainty about how to solve their larger problem–their need to depend on God. It’s our common struggle. All human problems stem from the failure to make God the Lord of our life. We were created to serve God; but instead, we serve on all kinds of things in His place; and in the end, these lesser gods wreak havoc on our life!

When we know God as the one who always loves us, will never betray or leave us, and who fills us with power, love and wisdom–then common sense dictates that we should depend upon Him! This healthy perspective is developed by spending time with Him. His Spirit corrects our desires and His Word shapes our thoughts. We begin to open our eyes and then–we see His light which has always surrounded us. God’s Word becomes personal. In times of trouble we find our prayers in His Word: “O Lord, be gracious to us; we wait for you. Be our arm every morning, our salvation in the time of trouble. The Lord is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with justice and righteousness, and he will be the stability of your times, abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is Zion’s treasure. For the Lord is our judge; the Lord is our lawgiver; the Lord is our king; he will save us.” (Isaiah‬ ‭33:2, 5-6, 22‬),5-6,22.esv God becomes intensely personal to us.

God becomes our certainty. When we spend time with Him, He infuses us with wisdom, strength, peace, joy and love. He fills the deepest desires He created within us. When we have Him, we can give Him away. Alone, we have nothing to give. God is the only certainty we can give people; otherwise, death is their only certainty. In God, our light shines and others see the indestructible hope they have in Him.
