Why is it we admire a warrior with a noble cause? Simple answer–God made us that way. So, what characterizes this courage we greatly admire? Well, a warrior is passionate about the battle, loyal, trained, focused trustworthy, and–he’s NEVER friends with the enemy! His goal is absolute victory. Everything he does and all his basic needs are traced back to achieving his lofty goal! God created us to be warriors and in one way or another, we are all in that role right now. The great question is–what are we fighting for? Are we warriors for self preservation, personal gain or comfort? OR–do we have an allegiance greater than self?

To answer this question we should consider whether we have done more for ourselves than God has done for us. King Jesus laid down His life and conquered death and hell so we could live! If we believe that’s true, then His glory is our greatest cause! Thus, we should consider whether we are the kind of warrior we admire? Are we distracted fighting petty battles? Are we vacationing on the battlefield? Do people even know whose side we’re on? Are we so cowardly that we’ve integrated deep into the enemy camp to avoid being recognized and harmed? Or, are we fighting the enemy so fiercely that we are his number one target?

At the end of his life, Paul the Apostle made this profoundly simple statement: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy‬ ‭4:7‬) http://bible.com/59/2ti.4.7.esv Although his body died by the sword of a mortal man, the warrior in the deepest part of his soul and incorruptible spirit lives on. He is alive today with his King and the battles he fought on earth produced a large portion of the New Testament! We have better resources and more freedom than Paul ever dreamed of–thus, we have an abounding opportunity to “fight the good fight.” We are warriors of Christ and He has given us a cause worth fighting for–so–do it today!
