Are we so confident in who God made us that we never try to be like someone else? God took the time to uniquely and wonderfully design each of us. The Bible says:“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” (Psalms‬ ‭139:13-14)‬ ‭ When we try to conform ourselves to be like someone else, we are ignoring the uniqueness God created within us. Thus, we never live up to the full potential God created for us.

God created us for a specific and glorious purpose; however, we find that purpose ONLY when we listen to Him. We’re often too distracted by all the other voices which seek to drown out the voice of God. They scream for us to conform to be accepted by the crowd, but Psalms says: “Thy hands have made me and fashioned me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments.” (Psalms 119:73) We must stop comparing ourselves to others, competing with each other, conforming to peer pressure and contorting ourselves to gain approval of others. God frees us. What a relief! We don’t have to be like someone He didn’t make us to be!

We are all different–right down to our fingerprints. Why not just be who He made us? When we get to know God, we find He adores us just the way He created us. The confidence we gain in being loved by Him is amazing! Think about this–how much confidence would we gain from being associated with a famous athlete? Thus, isn’t association with God exponentially greater? When we love God, we get closer to Him–and our confidence soars! The Bible says: “But if one loves God truly [with affectionate reverence, prompt obedience, and grateful recognition of His blessing], he is known by God [recognized as worthy of His intimacy and love, and he is owned by Him].” (1 Corinthians 8:3) An intimate relationship with God gives us the confidence to succeed as the unique and wonderful person He created!
