The more time I spend in God’s presence, the more my heart is completely attached to Him. I find that this attachment is the pipeline for His wisdom, love and strength to flow through me even amidst of the darkest evil. It scares me to think about living without Him. I still can’t believe that for so many years after I was born again–I actually CHOSE to live without Him! These verses from Psalms are my prayer: “Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever. For behold, those who are far from you shall perish; you put an end to everyone who is unfaithful to you. But for me it is good to be near God; I have made the Lord God my refuge, that I may tell of all your works.” (Psalms‬ ‭73:25-28‬) http://bible.com/59/psa.73.25-28.esv They are such a favorite expression of my heart that God inspired me to write the song “Whom Have I” so I could sing this Psalm!
The more I take time to “be near God” and experience His tender care for me, the more I depend upon Him for everything. He has become the “strength of my heart.” When He is my source of power, He empowers everything I do–all for His glory. I am learning to carefully guard and nurture my relationship with Him because losing closeness to Him is more precious than anything else. There is no one like Him!
If there is anything or anyone which takes precedence over God, then we are missing out on the BEST–when we don’t have to. When we weary ourselves of the emptiness of seeking after the lesser gods of this world and began to seek Him–He WILL be found. The Bible says: “But from there you will seek the Lord your God and you will find him, if you search after him with all your heart and with all your soul.” (Deuteronomy 4:29) There is NOTHING in this world which satisfies us like God. He is magnificent beyond description and loves us more than we imagine!
