When we are born again, God plants His seed within us; and when we allow Him to be our greatest desire, that seed cracks open and His life bursts forth. A seed planted in the cold, dark soil and does not benefit anyone unless the life inside is set free. The seed must die in order to accomplish its larger purpose–that is, to grow into a tree that produces life-giving fruit. When we love God with all our heart, soul and mind, we die to our selfish desires and God’s seed grows and bears fruit. There is much more joy in the fruit than in the seed!

When we begin to desire God more than living selfishly or independently from Him, the seed begins to produce life. We completely trust in Him. The Bible says: “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” (Jeremiah‬ ‭17:7-8‬) http://bible.com/59/jer.17.7-8.esv Our daily decision to live in God’s will instead of our own way, frees the life that is bound up in that seed. It busts out of the cold, dark shell of our earthly flesh and grows and stretches it’s branches toward Heaven. We fall in love with the life God has given us!

When His life begins to burst from our branches, we no longer believe the world’s lie that freedom is found by living for ourselves or apart from Him. The promises of God’s Word awaken us to the marvelous life that our sinful, self-centered life had long been depriving us of. We become a mighty, flourishing tree, a center of life which produces seeds which produce fruit long after we are gone. This amazing destiny God has for us begins anew each day when we open our heart to Him. When we learn to allow Him to live on the throne of our heart, reign in our mind, and feed and water us with His Word, we learn what living is really all about!
