When entrust our life to ourselves and our own strength, the Bible says we are like a parched shrub in the desert. “Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength, whose heart turns away from the Lord. He is like a shrub in the desert, and shall not see any good come. He shall dwell in the parched places of the wilderness, in an uninhabited salt land.” (Jeremiah 17:5-6) Wow–what an indictment! Yet–how often do we daily trust ourselves or other people to make our next decision without giving even a thought to asking God? By contrast, those who trust God are MUCH better off. “Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” (Jeremiah‬ ‭17:8) http://bible.com/59/jer.17.5-8.esv How do we go from being a cursed shrub in the desert to a tree planted by water? Trust God. He has all the answers, we just have to be smart enough to ask Him!

Trusting God sounds good and we can SAY we do; but to LIVE trusting Him, we must KNOW Him. That takes work, time and love. The deepest trust grows between people who love each other. There’s no doubt God loves us; WE are the weak end of the equation. We must fall in love with God. We do this through submitting our life to His Word, talking with Him and studying to know Him. This requires daily dedication–just like a marriage. It is work. Love always is. The more we love Him, the more we walk into the enlightened realization of how much He loves us. Then, there’s no one else we’d trust more than Him. As our trust in Him grows, we grow. He strengthens us and develops us into the magnificent person He created within us. When we’ve lived as a tree by the water, we never again want to live as a shrub in the desert!
