We don’t associate great power with tender compassion because most humans gain power through force; and compassion is considered weakness which serves only to compromise power. It is not so with God. His power resides in Himself. He doesn’t gain power by taking it from others AND His power is never compromised by His compassion. His power is unmatched. Consider The Milky Way, which is 100,000 light years in diameter. If we travelled at the speed of light, it would take 100,000 years to travel its diameter and we’d be dust upon arrival! Yet, God who made and maintains this vastness, also created each of us in HIS image!
The Book of Psalms says: “He determines and counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by their names. Great is our Lord and of great power; His understanding is inexhaustible and boundless. The Lord lifts up the humble and downtrodden; He casts the wicked down to the ground. Sing to the Lord with thanksgiving; sing praises with the harp or the lyre to our God! Who covers the heavens with clouds, Who prepares rain for the earth, Who makes grass to grow on the mountains. He gives to the beast his food, and to the young ravens that for which they cry. He determines and counts the number of the stars; He calls them all by their names. Great is our Lord and of great power; His understanding is inexhaustible and boundless. He delights not in the strength of the horse, nor does He take pleasure in the legs of a man. The Lord takes pleasure in those who reverently and worshipfully fear Him, in those who hope in His mercy and loving-kindness.” (Psalms 147:4-11) Do we know anyone this powerful who also submitted himself to die for those who hated Him? We may know someone who is very powerful OR very compassionate; but it is rare to find someone who is both. God is both on a scale we can’t comprehend. When our helpless heart comes to our Father, He wraps us in His powerful arms and surrounds us with His compassionate heart. We are precious children of the Almighty Father.
