How secure would you be if the things you valued the most–were gone today? What are you most afraid of losing? Is it worldly possessions, profession, retirement, family, health, friends, freedom or reputation? Is your identity and security so tightly wrapped into these fragile things that if you lost them it would destroy you? I remember when I’d simultaneously lost many of my most valued things and I was completely shattered. It was there that I realized my greatest hope was in God. Now He is the only One I know I can’t live without. Why did it take losing my fragile security system for me to search for permanent security with my loving Father? Well, I foolishly believed that I could take better care of myself than God does. The Bible says: “For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him. And he is before all things, and in him all things hold together.” (Colossians 1:16-17) Do we truly believe God’s Word? If we do, then we KNOW that HE sustains ALL things. But—what do our everyday actions and decisions say about what we really believe? Do we choose a “safe” path to maintain our security instead of the faith-path so God can give us REAL security? If we are placing our faith in anything less than Him that’s not a safe gamble.
When we know God, we learn how much He LONGS to give us security within Himself. His Word says: “The Lord upholds all who are falling and raises up all who are bowed down. The eyes of all look to you, and you give them their food in due season. You open your hand; you satisfy the desire of every living thing. The Lord is righteous in all his ways and kind in all his works. The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth. He fulfills the desire of those who fear him; he also hears their cry and saves them.” (Psalms 145:14-19) Almighty God fulfills the desires of those who passionately pursue Him with a pure heart. When we know Him, He becomes our most valued source of security. He is our wealth, health, best friend, and our family. In Him we are eternally secure!
