The closer we get to God, the less we find satisfaction in entertainment which does not draw us to Him. Closeness to God changes us. He becomes our one, true joy. No evil exists in Him. His presence gives us a sense of pureness, a feeling of knowing we’re unconditionally loved, wisdom beyond our understanding and power greater than any we’ve ever known. Would we forfeit ALL of that—for a show, book, or song that gives us a temporarily thrill, but takes us from God so that we feel hungry, lonely, scared, dirty or unsatisfied?

When we voluntarily expose our heart to evil, we are eroding the most important relationship we possess—the one with Him. The Bible says, “He that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from holding of bribes, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from seeing evil; He shall dwell on high: his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks: bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.” (‭Isaiah‬ ‭33:15-1) God gives us all we desire and all we need! Nothing we put in our mind is neutral. It’s either from God—or it’s not. If it’s something that God hates (because it separates us from Him), do we really expect to feel close to Him while we’re “entertaining” ourselves with it? We can’t fill our heart with Him as long as we’re voluntarily embracing darkness.

“What fellowship has light with darkness?” (2 Corinthians 6:14b)

Evil will NEVER satisfy us like God does; but we’ll NEVER understand this if we’ve never been close enough to Him to be satisfied by Him. When we seek Him with all our heart, we experience complete satisfaction. When the most important desire of our heart becomes our desire for God’s presence, then we know we’ve learned to be satisfied by Him. Once we experience the satisfaction of God’s presence, we desire nothing less.
