What type of security are you most afraid of losing? Is it your job, savings, retirement, family, marriage partner, government, home, etc.? Think about it—if all your savings were stolen, you lost your career, your entire family died and the government collapsed—would you be panicking? Scale it back—what if only one of these tragic events happened? By way of comparison, how much would you panic if you lost your closeness with God? How would that stack up against losing your job? Before I began to draw close to God, I definitely would have been more concerned about my job security. Slowly, God is changing my perspective and I am beginning to make Him my greatest source of security. I find that He—never changes, never fails, never dies, never grows old, never runs out on me and ALWAYS loves me. He astounds me!

God gave everything—not just to save us–but also so we could enjoy the many benefits of a close relationship with Him. He promises, “fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” (Isaiah‬ ‭41:10‬) Wow–this is God speaking! He never intended for us to live dependent upon ourselves or our man-made institutions. Of course, since we’ve chosen to live independently from Him, we’ve become dependent upon things less than Him. Our dependence on these things has conditioned us to live life backwards. When we are born again, we’re given the ticket out of this backwards life. We’re free to live directly dependent upon Him and trust in HIS Almighty power! However, because we’ve lived so long relying on lesser things, we must consistently experience God’s presence to retrain our way of thinking. It’s a process. The more we experience His power and trustworthiness, the more we see the common sense of entrusting Him with every decision. He’s very good at what He does! If God is not our greatest source of security; we don’t know Him very well. When we know Him, we realize He is our only security!
