When we seek a relationship with God with the eager expectation of a trusting child, we discover the greatest friendship of our lifetime. To do this, we oftentimes must rid ourselves of all the lies about who we think God is. We mustn’t seek a god we’ve created in our mind; we must seek the God of The Bible. His Word, not our mind, reveals who He is. God is often thought of as a wrathful judge, a benevolent godfather, a senile old man, and in many other wrong ways. These false impressions will never draw us to the one, true God. For example, if we view Him more as a judge instead of a loving Father, we’ll never desire to be close to Him. On the other hand, if we believe His righteous nature can simply overlook our sin, we’ll never become one of His children because we won’t understand our need for grace and mercy.

Who is God?

He is the Word made flesh. (John 1) His Words spoke the universe into existence. (Genesis 1) He took our judgment. (John 3:16) He sacrificed everything so we could know Him. (James 4:8) He desires to live inside us and give us unimaginably wonderful blessings. (Jeremiah 29:11) Why don’t we seek Him? Because we don’t search to know Him in His Word. Like many, I fell into an abyss of despair before I sought to discover the truth about Him. It was His goodness which led me to turn from my own way and–that’s when I began to seek Him. (Romans 2:4) His goodness captivated my heart and I desired to know the Giver of the goodness more than I desired to know anything. Everything else I’d tried amounted to nothing. He was the only one who began to satisfy the deepest longing of my heart.

Now, I’m experiencing the truth about how magnificent life is when lived with Him. He’s made my life more than I ever made it on my own! His tender promise is my personal experience: “Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” (Matthew‬ ‭11:28-30)‬ When we seek God with all of our heart, He exceeds our greatest expectations!
