Of all the friends we have, God is the only one who offers us perfect friendship. Until I passionately searched to know Him, I never would have believed such a magnificent friendship existed. My idea of God was a being who was distant, powerful and scary. I never believed I could seek His advice or feel His love–like I do from my good friends. Boy, oh boy–was I wrong! God is the most real friend I have. He is my only best friend who doesn’t have any problems of His own. He gives me the only perfect peace I’ve ever known. Jesus said: “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be fearful.” (John 14:27)

When we seek God, He becomes our best Friend.

He gives friendship and peace that’s beyond what our earthly friends are capable of giving us. When we have the peace of His friendship, we aren’t nearly as troubled by the predictable failings of each other because the satisfaction of His friendship is also accompanied by His omniscient perspective. All of us fail. God never fails. So, why would we be angry and disappointed in those who have the same struggles we do?

Ultimately, when we seek to have God as our best Friend, we become an even better friend to others. We see each other the way God sees all of us. When we recognize that we all fail, we cease having unrealistic expectations from each other. Rather, our most hopeful expectation is in God’s perfect friendship. He never disappoints us. The closer we are to Him, the more we see how His mercy, grace and forgiveness abounds in our own life. We are filled and we are grateful. We become a friend who has fewer expectations from others because we are completely satisfied by God.
