Drawing our thoughts to God’s goodness is a sure way to get ourselves out of ANY depressing funk. Sometimes I wake up in the morning and start to think about what I’m missing or people I think have failed me and these thoughts produce negative emotions in my soul, which, unless redirected—ruin my day. God wants to make my day wonderful. He gives me ALL I need and He NEVER fails me. He waits for me to figure this out and turn to Him. He’s planned goodness for me. His Word says: “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.” (James‬ ‭1:17‬)

ALL of my best gifts come from God!

When I begin to remember His goodness, it revives my soul and draws praise from my lips. His Word calls His goodness into remembrance: “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.” (Psalms 103:2-5) Do you know any other who gave His life for you and does all these marvelous things? What about the breath you just drew into your lungs? Yes–that is also evidence of His goodness. As we discover His goodness, we find more and more reasons to praise Him and to keep Him close. His presence gives us our greatest security. The Psalmist said, “I bless the Lord who gives me counsel; in the night also my heart instructs me. I have set the Lord always before me; because he is at my right hand, I shall not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad, and my whole being rejoices; my flesh also dwells secure.” (Psalms‬ ‭16:7-9‬)

When we are wrapped up in thoughts of God’s goodness, we live in consistent joy. He is the only One Who NEVER changes. We can ALWAYS depend upon Him. When we are close to Him, He transforms us into someone stronger than we ever imagined. God is the best part of who we are and He gives us every reason to live today with great joy!
