When we love God, He isn’t just someone we talk about; rather, His love is manifested in our everyday lives. He becomes the best part of who we are and the most important reason for what we do. So, we must all ask ourselves: Do people see Him in me? What did people see in me yesterday? Did my actions draw attention to my own intelligence, looks, accomplishments, possessions, etc.? Or, did people see my love for God and His love for me?
When we’re head-over-heels in love—it’s hard to hide—right?
When we’re in love with God, we desire to maintain that love relationship with Him more than we desire anything else—even our own way. Just like sin destroys human love relationships, sin is offensive to God and it destroys our love relationship with Him. However, when we follow His will, our love relationship with Him displays a deep bond which inspires others to desire the same kind of relationship. It’s just like a great marriage—when others can see the beauty of it—they want it! Whether it’s great human love relationships or a great love relationship with God, love involves subverting our own will and our desires.
Jesus set the standard for all of us.
The Bible says, “By this we know love, that he laid down his life for us, and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. But if anyone has the world’s goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him, how does God’s love abide in him? Little children, let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth.” (1 John 3:16-18)
Just like a picture is worth a thousand words, love is more evident by what we do than what we say. When we are in love with God, our life is a moving picture of the love relationship we share with Him. When we are in love with Him, everyone can see that He is the best part of who we are!
