God has written a perfect plan for our life; but to know it, we must know Him. When we know Him, we hear Him and then we live in the rich, meaningful and satisfying life He planned. The Bible says: “Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.” (Psalms 139:16) He knew us before we existed and He designed each day! Amazing! It staggers my imagination to think that Almighty God made a plan for each of my days. His tender care swells my heart with confidence and love.
If the Creator places such priceless value on me, shouldn’t I live like I’m valuable? My loving Father wrote a plan for me, the only question is: Will I follow it? Where do I begin? How do I know? Well, when we become His child, His Spirit dwells within us and He longs for us to listen. The Bible says, “He yearns jealously over the spirit that he has made to dwell in us.” (James 4:5b)
So, what keeps us from hearing Him?
When we choose what separates us from Him–we live so far from Him that we cannot hear His voice. God calls this choice “sin” and it prevents us from hearing Him. Our sin is the reason His Son died; so, of course, He hates it! The Bible says, “Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.” (James 4:8) Worse yet, when we choose the sin of pride, not only are we far from God, but we are fighting Him. The Bible says, “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.” (James 4:6b)
Why would we ever choose to fight our loving Heavenly Father who wrote a magnificent plan for each of our days? For me, it was because I didn’t know Him. I never allowed Him to satisfy me. I was afraid of Him. The closer I get to God, the further I want to live from sin, because the more I see how much my sin deceived me into forsaking what is best. His way is always best. Any choice we make without God is a choice for less than the best! When we choose Him, He gives us direction!
