When Christ is real to us, people see the real Himin us. People respond to what is real. If He’s not real to us, we’ll never convince others that He’s real. When He’s the most real part of our life—we don’t have to say anything to convince them—because they can see Him. God is only the most real part of us when He’s what’s most important to us. His goodness makes Him important to us because it gives us a better life. He gives us more comfort and peace than the world, family, friends, possessions, positions, or—even than we give ourselves.

Until I got close to God, He was never real to me.

The closest things to me were my friends, family, goals, possessions, schooling, work, etc. That’s what was most real to me—it’s what I understood. We often don’t want what we don’t understand—and that includes God. I made no effort to understand and know God because I was afraid I wouldn’t like what I’d find. I spoke of God in esoteric and theoretical concepts rather than from personal knowledge. I didn’t pursue Him because I didn’t love Him; thus, I had no personal experiences to share.

Jesus said: “Whoever has my commandments and keeps them, he it is who loves me. And he who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I will love him and manifest myself to him.” (John‬ ‭14:21‬) To know God, we must love Him.

Love is action. Love is surrender.

There is no one who sacrificed more for us than God did. There is no one better to surrender our heart to than Him. He has magnificent plans for each of us. When we get rid of the disobedience which separates us from Him and spend time with Him—He is the most real part of our life. When He’s real to us, He is the best part of who we are and what we do. He is our testimony of love. His love transforms us and others see He is real.
