When we experience the unwavering love of God, we make our closest friends those who love like He does. God’s love is not fickle, it doesn’t manipulate or have a self-seeking angle. God is exactly who He is—all the time. He does not play mind-games. He doesn’t keep us guessing. His actions and words are NEVER inconsistent with His love. When we ask for an answer, we receive an answer—even if it is “Wait” or “No.” He doesn’t ignore us. What He says never leaves us wondering if He loves us. We trust His love because He proved it with His life. Remember, “God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son?” (John‬ ‭3:16‬)

When we communicate with Him, we never doubt that His motive is ever anything other than love. He says exactly what He means and He means exactly what He says. His love is wise, kind and powerful. He isn’t afraid to show His love because He isn’t afraid of anyone and His perfect love casts out fear. Do we have friends who love like this? When we do, we keep them very close. Those who are close to God have experienced His love and thus, they say and do as He does. Those who are not—cannot love like He does—because God’s love does not exist apart from Him. Those who love God are the friends who refresh us—not stress us.

The love we share with our closest friends is tied to God’s unbreakable cord of redemption.

His Word teaches us how to love: “Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.” (Colossians‬ ‭3:12-14‬)

Do we have friends who love like God does? Are we a friend who loves like He does? When we’re with a friend who loves God, we know we’ve been with Him. These friends are our most precious friends.
