I spent the majority of my life trying to find fulfillment in my achievements, possessions and relationships. I had a lucrative career, a respected position, a family, and all the possessions I wanted; yet, was plagued by disappointment, dissatisfaction and heartbreak. I had placed all my hope in everything except God. I didn’t know Him well enough to believe I could trust Him; thus, I never experienced the satisfaction He offers. At the end of that rotting rope, I found His goodness. I began to pursue Him with all my heart.

What did I find?

God never disappoints. He always satisfies. He loves me more than I love myself. You see, there is no greater joy, satisfaction and love found than when we place our hope in God alone. Our achievements may take us to a pinnacle of joy, but it never lasts. Possessions cannot love us. Our friends and family have the same sinful failings that we do. Our relationship with God is the only relationship which holds no disappointment or hurt for us. Placing every ounce of the energy of our hope in Almighty God—is where our day should begin! The Psalmist understood this: “For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence, for my hope is from him. He only is my rock and my salvation, my fortress; I shall not be shaken.” (Psalms 62:5-6)

It’s a daily process.

We’ve spent our entire lives trusting ourselves and we need to train ourselves to trust Him. Likewise, every time we’re disappointed, we must consider whether we’ve misplaced our hope. Our hope for joy should be placed only in God. He leads us into joy that does not depend upon possessions, positions, achievements or human relationships. In God there is no failure. Living each day in unshakable hope begins by placing our trust in God!
