What are our most important goals for today? What will take most of our time today? Before God became my best friend, my primary goals were nearly 100% focused upon temporal matters like—earning money, success and respect. My secondary goals were taking care of my family, having friends, playing sports and entertainment. And—of course, I got up early so I would have enough time to work out and try to look good while I was pursuing my all-important goals! I was driven. I gave God leftover time and when I did, it was usually distracted by my goals. Seriously—this was the way I lived for most of my Christian life—caught in the cycle of temporality.

However, when I began spending time with God—He transformed me and thus, transformed my daily goals. What is important to Him became important to me. He changed my perspective and made the temporal goals incidental to the magnificent and eternal purpose He planned for me. Now—He supplies the needs I thought I needed to supply. I no longer need to be consumed by temporal goals.

It’s amazing!

When we’re in love with God, His wisdom, power and peace make earthly accomplishments easier—after all, He made the earth! He manages our physical survival in ways we could have never imagined. We awake every morning and desire Him above anything. He is the first one we want to talk with because He is our perfect peace, consistent love and absolute joy. Abiding in Him becomes our goal. Jesus said: “As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Abide in my love. If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commandments and abide in his love. These things I have spoken to you, that my joy may be in you, and that your joy may be full.” (John 15:9-11)

The most important goal we can set for today is to stay close to God so that He may reveal the meaningful and eternal purpose He has reserved especially for each of us!
