How do we hear God? We must be close to Him—right? God said He is everywhere: “Am I a God at hand, declares the Lord, and not a God far away? Can a man hide himself in secret places so that I cannot see him? Do I not fill heaven and earth?” (Jeremiah‬ 23:23-24‬)‬‬ Why don’t His children hear Him? I can tell you from my own experience that it was sin which dulled my hearing and dimmed my sight of God.

It still does.

The more I purify my heart from sin, the more I hear God’s voice and see His miraculous works. Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.” (Matthew 5:8) When we spend time in the presence of our Holy God, His love purifies our heart. Our eyes are opened to His blessings and our ears are opened to His voice. When we learn to see Him and hear His voice, we never want to go back to living the way we did without Him. Sin isn’t worth it. However, our flesh is sneaky. It deceives us and makes evil look good. We must remain vigilant. It’s a constant battle. We mustn’t be spiritually lazy.

We must be intentional about our relationship with God. We must seek to learn His Word so we know the truth about wrong and right. If not, we remain ignorant and we seek to justify anything we want. God and truth are inextricably linked. The Bible says, “let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience.” (Hebrews‬ ‭10:22) “The Lord is near to all who call on him, to all who call on him in truth.” (‭Psalms‬ ‭145:18‬)

When we learn the truth and follow it, God replaces the ravages of sin with the blessings of Heaven. Tears of joy run down my face as I think of how much more wonderful life is with God than it ever was without Him. When we begin to hear God, we allow Him to touch and change every part of our life and experience unsurpassed peace and joy.
