Is there anything more important to us than our family? If so, how much do we care about their eternity? Can they see how our God-shaped hole is filled by Him? Are we focused primarily upon caring for their material well-being instead of spiritual things? We are the role-model of God’s grace and goodness. However, we cannot give away what we do not possess.

If we don’t have God’s voice in our head, we can’t speak His wisdom. If we don’t have His love in our heart, we can’t love as He does. If we don’t have His power, we can’t give away His strength. If our family can’t see that God is real in us then why would they ever believe? If anything, the hypocrisy will drive them further away.

We are not credible about God to others until they see He is incredible to us.

When He is more important to us than anything or anyone, He shines through us so brightly that others can’t help but see Him. He becomes what is most real to us and about us. So, what is keeping our family from seeing Him in us? Is it unforgiveness? What about worry? Is it the language we use, the white lies we tell or even the thoughts we allow to dominate our mind? Does our family see our countenance ruled by God’s goodness or the world’s trouble?

When we are filled with God’s goodness, others see it. His Word says, “the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.” (‭Galatians‬ ‭5:22-23a) These gifts are priceless; thus, they must be closely guarded by God’s Spirit lest they be stolen by the sneaky wiles of evil. “Guard, through the Holy Spirit who dwells in us, the treasure which has been entrusted to you.” (2 Timothy‬ ‭1:14‬‬‬) When we’re close to God, no one can steal what He gives us. When we have Him, we can give Him to those we love with all our heart!
