What is the most empowering gift we can give to the next generation? Is it enough money, a safe place to live, a free country, a stable family or a good education? What will be the most consistent force in their life when everything and everyone else fails? Are we teaching them to place more faith in “playing it safe” instead of in God who never changes?

Think about the story of Moses. Two women stood courageously on a river bank and watched over baby Moses in defiance of pharaoh’s death sentence. Not safe—right? Moses grew up under the roof of pharaoh—who hated God—while being reared by his mother—in the ways of God. Moses had faith in God which empowered him to defy pharaoh and destroy his army without ever raising a sword! Who taught Moses to defy evil by faith in God? His family! They had more faith in God than in playing it safe!

The Bible says, “By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents…and they were not afraid of the king’s edict. By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh’s daughter…not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible.” (Hebrews 11:23-27)

Moses learned from his family’s faith in God and took his faith in God to a level they never imagined!

What kind of faith inspiration are we giving the next generation? If our strongest faith is in things and people, then we are giving our children a dim view of faith in God. In fact, when we place more faith in worldly security instead of God, we are crippling the faith of the next generation. The only way it will ever change is if we spend time in God’s presence. We only develop active, living faith in someone we know and trust—right?

The better we know God, the more active our faith in Him becomes. Our example of living faith in God is the greatest gift we can give to the next generation. God is the greatest security for ourselves and for those who come after us!
