For most of my Christian life, I never understood that my morning devotional time with God could be like a fabulous date with someone who loves me completely. Rather, I anticipated it about as much as calculus homework! However, as I began to get to know God, I discovered that He communicates with me based upon both His love and—my ability to understand. It’s like a mechanical engineer teaching science to his third-grade son. He loves him enough to teach it based upon his son’s limitations. The more the son wants to learn, the more the father can teach him. Similarly, the more passion I have to know God, the more He gives me wisdom exceeding my experience.

He can’t teach me unless I WANT to be in His presence. In His presence, I receive pearls of many colors. Sometimes, I’m straight up seeking His wisdom to handle a problem. Other times, I’m completely overcome with thankfulness which produces praise and joy. Then, there are the times when life has beaten me down so badly that I simply need the soothing comfort of His Word and the strong embrace of His heart. He knows what I need before I ask. He is my magnificent Father! Time with God is an amazing, personal journey discovering the richness of His presence.

His Word says: “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! ‘For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor? Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid?’ For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.” (Romans 11:33-36) Amazing! God, who created all things, knows all things, and loves His creation—desires to spend time with me! Wow! Time alone with Him is always the best time of my day!

How could it ever not be?
