Am I my biggest obstacle to becoming all God created me to be, or possessing all the blessings He intends for me?

If my faith is in anything less than God, then the answer is “Yes!” Because the world has trained us our entire life to put our faith in what we can see, we need God’s help to learn to put faith in what we can’t see. He opens our eyes to the unseen. For most of us, our instincts are trained to work harder at what is less important instead of getting closer to God who will give us what is most important.

Our unbelief consistently displaces God’s power to work in our life. Because we don’t know God, we don’t believe in Him enough to trust Him. In order to shed our unbelief, we need God’s help. Consider the father of the demon possessed boy in the Book of Mark. The dialogue between Jesus and the boy’s father, as the boy was foaming at the mouth, rolling around on the ground and seized by convulsions went something like this:

Jesus: “How long has he been like this?”
Father: “From childhood…and…it has often thrown him into fire to kill him. But if you
can do anything, take pity on us and help us.”
Jesus: “If
I CAN? Everything is possible for one who believes.”
Father: “I do believe;
Help me overcome my unbelief!” (Mark 9:21-24)

The belief of the father engaged the power of God and healed the son. Wow! So how can we possess such powerful belief? It begins by becoming close to God.

His power is not accessible to us—apart from His presence. We must get close to Him and know Him. He knows everything and loves us more than anything. He is more powerful than anyone. Knowing Him is the solution to our unbelief. As we know Him, He changes us. He places us in the path of miraculous blessings. When we believe in Him, He empowers us to do “all things through Christ” who strengthens us. (Philippians 4:13)
