The closer we get to God, the more we realize that He is our most important need. He fills our soul more than any need or comfort will ever fill our body. In fact, an abundance of physical resources often masks our awareness of our desperate need for Him. We are like an alcoholic drinking away our pain instead of seeking to heal our heart. Alcohol—or anything the world offers—won’t heal our heart. Nothing less than God ever satisfies our soul! He is what we need most. He has the answer to every problem. He has the power to abundantly care for His children. His love is the most powerful remedy for our heart.

Because the forces of the world constantly seek to delude us, we must be vigilant to feed our passion for Him. We do this by both ridding ourselves of what separates us from Him and by spending quality time with Him. He must be our closest companion. Then, He becomes our most passionate need and we experience His power, love and wisdom. The experience is completely addicting. We begin to live fearlessly. We experience the victory that John talked about when He wrote:

“Greater is He who is in you than He who is in the world!” (1 John 4:4b)

Is that how you would describe your Christian experience? Or, are you defeated—living afraid, worried, frustrated, angry, sad and lonely? God is not defeated, nor will He ever be! When we’re close to Him—we aren’t either! When we recognize that He is the greatest need of our heart, He plants within us a desire for more of Himself. The more we feed that desire, the more He grows within us. Just like marriage—experiencing God is something we must do personally. No one can fall in love with God for us. It’s a relationship between our heart and His. It’s more than going to church. We are the church—the bride of Christ. When we fall in love with Christ our Bridegroom, He becomes the most passionate desire of our heart!
