When we are close to God, He heals our conscience. Just as God created animals with instincts which help them avoid danger, He created humans with a conscience and ability to recognize sin. So when we repeatedly choose the destruction of sin, our conscience becomes scarred. Even as a child of God, I chose to live independently from God, followed my fleshly desires, gossiped, lived in lies, worried and failed to develop a personal relationship with God. Sin scarred my conscience so badly that I was blind. I was deterred only when I got caught!

My conscience was shot in a million pieces. There at the bottom—I saw God’s goodness. I repented. I began to fall in love with Him. I began to experience the wonderfulness of walking in His Spirit. As I walked with Him, He began to heal the scars of my conscience. God replaced the hardened scar tissue with the ultra-sensitive awakening of His Spirit. God is Holy. He constantly teaches me how to avoid the sin that sears my conscience and destroys me—even sneaky sin—like worry. The experience of God working through me is both humbling and exhilarating.

I never want to go back to sin’s slavery!

Once we begin to experience His satisfaction, we become determined to do whatever it takes to keep anything from coming between us and Him. When we seek Him, this tender promise becomes our reality: “For a people shall dwell in Zion, in Jerusalem; you shall weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry. As soon as he hears it, he answers you…And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, ‘This is the way, walk in it, when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.’” (Isaiah 30:19, 21) Almighty God extends a priceless invitation to His children to share in His perfect love, wisdom and power. When He heals our scars, we realize He is everything we need!
