When we allow God to work His power in us, He does more than we ever ask or imagine. Multiply your greatest desire times a million and that’s what God—who has proven His love to you more than anyone else—has planned for you! His Word says: “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21)

How do we begin to have “more than all we ask or imagine?”

Well, since God is the only one who holds the power to make it happen—we must be living in His power instead of our own. We must forsake our independence from Him. With every area of our life we surrender to Him, He increasingly empowers us with the muscle of Heaven and we experience the fulfillment of the deepest desires of our God-given soul. We learn it makes more sense to pray “Thy will be done,” because He knows us better than we know ourselves. (Matthew 6:10) We abandon the goals set with our limited human understanding because we recognize the superiority of His brilliance. We’d rather build on His eternal foundation because it no longer makes sense to construct sandcastles washed away by every changing tide.

God can accomplish more than we can ask or imagine, but we’ll never know what that is if we aren’t close enough to Him to hear His voice. To be close to Him, we must seek to know Him. Seeking Him means taking time to learn about Him and talk with Him. Furthermore, we must root out sin because it deafens His voice and blinds us from seeing His goals. Whatever it is—adultery, pornography, worry, fear—or just plain independence from God—it’s not worth it. He offers us His best! As we draw close to Him, we hear His Spirit lead us in His goals for our day. His plans for us are always better than ours—in fact, they are always “more than we ever asked or imagined!”
