I’m a Tim Tebow fan and if I knew he was attending my church this Sunday, I’d be there! Everyone would want his autograph or want to take selfies with him. With his God-given talent he has accomplished superstardom. He’s earned respect and admiration. However, based upon his testimony of faith and after reading his book, “Shaken,” I’ll bet he would say it’s God who deserves the praise for his accomplishments.
So, why don’t we admire God the way we do superstars?
Well, if we knew Him, we would. It’s interesting, very few people ever know their superstars—but worship them anyway. We read about them, watch them on T.V., listen to their music, or “know” them from afar—but never talk to them. Yet, we’d still fall over each other at the chance to meet them. We’ve never experienced their care, but somehow, we believe their briefest attentiveness to us would fill a need within us.
Meanwhile, God, who gave them their talent, is waiting for us to focus on Him long enough to develop our talent! God, who is capable of giving us His attention 24/7 and meet our deepest need for friendship and love is waiting for us to figure out that He is our real hero. He is the only one who can satisfy the deepest desires within us.
To find Him—we must seek Him with more passion than we seek our greatest hero. He’s earned our adoration. When we seek Him, our eyes are opened to His magnificence. He becomes our greatest hero and the love of our life—our everything. He always was—we just didn’t know it. The Bible says: “Oh, the depth of the riches and wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are his judgments and how inscrutable his ways! For who has known the mind of the Lord, or who has been his counselor? Or who has given a gift to him that he might be repaid? For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever.” (Romans 11:33-36) God is, was, and always will be. No other hero will ever compare to Him!
