If we lived in the sub-zero weather of Antarctica and our home had a wood burning fireplace as our only source of heat—we’d never want that fire to go out! It would be vital to keep that fire burning—whatever the cost! When God becomes the passionate fire of our life, we recognize just how much we need Him in this world filled with cold, harsh evil. A chill sets in when we walk in any direction which is not led by the Spirit. We throw icy water on our Spiritual fire. We often become so cold that we become deluded.

Anytime I choose to ignore God’s way, the coldness of the world creeps back into my soul. I remember well the ravages of living in the cold, harsh world far from the fire of God’s Spirit. I don’t ever want to be there again—I love His fire; cherish the warmth and passionate love of His Spirit. As the Psalmist said: “Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you. My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.” (Psalms 73:25-26)

When we experience Him, we realize how vital He is to us.

I can’t reverse the scars caused by the frostbite of sin. But I don’t EVER have to go back. I will always remember how when I was shivering in the cold, God loved me back to His fireside. I timidly cracked open the door of my heart, and as He kindled the fire, I immediately felt the warmth of His Spirit rush in—I never want for it to go out! As I feed His fire with fuel of seeking Him, studying His Word and following His way—His fire burns inside me with a rich warmth that the cold world can never create. God’s fire is His. There is none like Him. He paid the ultimate price to give us—not only, eternal life—but also, the warmth of His fireside while we dwell on earth!
