Christmas is a time when we celebrate the joy of giving. As we remember God’s priceless gift of His only Son to us—it inspires us to give as He gave. We were not worthy of His gift. He gave out of love we cannot understand. When we are close to Him—we also learn to give selflessly and sacrificially. When we give as He does, we experience the pure joy of giving, we learn that we actually prefer His way of giving!

The Book of Proverbs teaches us about the value of giving: “One gives freely, yet grows all the richer; another withholds what he should give, and only suffers want. Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.” (Proverbs 11:24-25) What is a rich life? It’s not about material possessions. Jesus died a pauper by worldly standards; yet He possessed all the riches of Heaven. A rich life is found by being filled with His Spirit. When we grasp this truth, it transforms our pursuits in life. We passionately seek the riches of His presence. We then possess the richest gifts to give to others!

What do you plan to give this Christmas? To whom do you plan to give? Jesus gave His life for everyone! He gives us each the blessing of His presence—if we want it. From Him we draw strength, hope, joy, peace, wisdom and love. These are gifts that money can’t buy. When His presence dwells within us, we can give the gifts He gives to us—to others! We are filled with His unmistakable presence.

When God is our most priceless treasure, then everyone we meet—from the cashier to the person we sit next to on the plane—is someone to whom we may give God’s gifts. Our smile, love, concern, encouragement and wisdom—may all be given from the deep well of the Holy Spirit who gives those gifts to us!

When we give as God does, we find joy we never lose!
