This year, I want to set a new standard for my New Year’s resolutions! God created me with an individual eternal purpose and I want to live it with all my might! When we experience a relationship with Him, we discover that He is the giver of all wisdom, strength, beauty, life, love and mercy. He gives us the most satisfying purpose to live. He frees us from the chains of selfishness—He changes our goals.

Our goals shift inward—to what is eternal. Thus, if we want to permanently change what we don’t like about ourselves, we need to start from the inside. Otherwise, we’re just repainting the barn instead of rebuilding it because when our identity is secure in the character of God, He balances us. We don’t ruin our body by binge eating and we don’t neglect exercise because we’re depressed. God satisfies us and His character within us—fuels balance. Even if it’s our circumstances we want to change, we must still begin with the condition of our heart—otherwise, no circumstance will ever satisfy us. We may be beautiful, successful, wealthy, healthy and have a large family and many friends—and still be completely empty and dissatisfied. Satisfaction begins in our heart.

We were created to be satisfied by God.

Our primary goal must be to fall in love with God because He is the greatest treasure we will ever possess! Jesus said: “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:19-21) God should be the greatest treasure of our heart. He alone, completely satisfies and energizes every area of our life with joy. Making Him the love of our life means we seek Him so intently that we allow nothing else to come between us.

He has the greatest goals for us because He loves us more than we love ourselves!
