Is God who WE think He is?

What do each of us imagine God to be like? One thing is for certain—He is much different than I thought He would be! When I was a teenager, my image of Him was a fierce judge whom I could never please, who wanted me to go to church three times a week and lead a boring life. Not me! So I ran—and I ran fast and far!

I stopped running from Him when I realized He had given me a really, really good reason to start running to Him. The reason was there all along—I was just too blinded by the lies and promises of the world to see it. Now that I’m getting to know Him, I’m shocked to find I’m actually more like Him than I ever imagined!!! We even enjoy many of the same things—gasp!! And now I want to be a lot like He is—and I ask myself: How is that possible when I used to run from Him? I had God figured all wrong.

You see, God doesn’t want to keep us from doing cool and fun stuff like play sports, go to the beach, hike, date, have a secular job and enjoy life; He simply wants us to do all  that we do for His glory. If “God created man in his own image…” (Genesis 1:26); then we, like Him, revel in the beauty of Creation, love and laughter—Right? Now think on this—if God made us like Him; why do we doubt that He wishes for us to enjoy life?

When we know God, we know ourselves!

I’m sure He enjoys many moments of His beautiful Creation! We must never forget the privileged blessing for which God created us: “…for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him.” (Isaiah 43:7)

When we seek Him, we uncover the perfection of our lives!
