People are watching us—how are we leading them? Are we: leading them on; leading them down;  leading them in circles; leading them astray—or, just leading them nowhere? First, we must understand that we are all  leaders to someone to do something—just as we’ve all been led by someone. If we are children of God and there is not one person we are influencing, then we are cheating God and ourselves because life is a gift and it is meant to be shared. Everywhere we go; everyone we meet or interact with is an opportunity to lead. Do any of these leadership examples sound familiar? An egotistical boss who manages employees with an iron fist? Woman who uses her body to influence a man? Man who uses his money to capture a woman? Politician who talks in circles to avoid the truth? Friend who introduces you to marijuana? Mother who fills her mind with social media all day or a father who works all the time?

What kind of leader are you?

Jesus was the PERFECT example of “servant leadership.”

He did not ask us to do anything He did not do. “…If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” (Luke 9:23) Jesus led by “denying Himself”—daily! We have two choices—lead by “living for self” and teach others to reap rewards which disappear like mist; or lead by “dying to self” and lead others to reap rewards which last forever. God gives us a small taste of the divine rewards of our leadership here on earth: Seeing our children grow up and become good parents; seeing our students grow and become good citizens; seeing people we sacrificed our money and time for do the same for others.

Contrast that with the rewards for “living for self”—influencing others to live selfish, indulgent, addictive, narcissistic lives which lead to more of the same. We all  lead—however, how  we lead is our choice. It’s a great responsibility with potentially eternal consequences—good or bad! We lead by “taking up our cross” either for ourselves or for Jesus. Choose carefully for those who are following!
