God gave me this story to help me begin to understand the power of prayer. Once upon a time, there was a child who lived in the ghetto. In dirty, ragged clothes, he begged for food. After his parents beat and starved him, he ran away from home. The King of all the land heard about his plight, searched the ghetto and found him. The King offered to adopt the child and he gladly accepted. He took him to his palace and treated him as a son.

He gave his son everything he needed, even things he never dreamed of having or could never have earned.

As the child grew, his heart became more and more treasured in the eyes of his father. Every morning, his father and he met to plan the day. His father was never too busy for even the smallest questions. As he experienced the satisfaction of pleasing his father, the child searched for ways to please him. The great King loved his son very much, and he knew this and trusted his father implicitly.

Sometimes his former family would persuade him to visit the ghetto, and confused and distracted—he would visit. But the ghetto could not compare to his father’s love! The more the child loved his adopted father, the less his father denied the child’s requests, because the requests were made from a desire to please the father. The child had the absolute power of the throne at his disposal.

Well—you guessed it—I’m the child from the ghetto and God is my Father-King. When His wishes become my desires, my wishes become His own, and He denies me nothing! “He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely give us all things?” (Rom. 8:32) I’m learning to talk to God about the smallest things and the largest things—and He talks to me with a simplicity I can understand. I rarely find myself praying for my own needs, because I don’t need many things anymore—He cares for me so well and the Kingdom is my inheritance!

The more God’s will becomes mine; the more I experience the awesome power of my Father-King!
