Recently, someone told me this regarding a friend of mine: “In his eyes, I see the great kindness of his soul.” It reminded me that I need for my eyes and soul to help others see the heart of God. William Shakespeare said, “The eyes are the windows of the soul.” Remember, windows allow you to look inside and out! What we allow ourselves to look at can affect what others see when they look into our eyes because the eye is the lamp of the body and what we allow inside our soul will either make us full of light or full of darkness. The Bible says: “The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are unhealthy, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” (Matthew 6‬:22-23‬) ‬‬

What we allow ourselves to look at directly affects how much light or darkness people see in us. Garbage in, garbage out; light in, light out; darkness in and darkness out! The Psalmist said: “I will not look with approval on anything that is vile…I will have nothing to do with what is evil. My eyes will be on the faithful in the land…” (Psalms 101‬:3-4, 6‬) When we guard what we allow ourselves to look at, people can clearly see the goodness that comes from God. When we choose to subject our eyes to that which is evil, whether it’s TV, movies, books, friends, etc., evil is darkness and it hides the light of God which is in the souls of His children.

‬‬‬The lady who made the comment had only met my friend a couple of times and she saw his beautiful soul!

He would say it comes from God. Even though his job sometimes puts him in a position to see some terrible things, because he has determined to live seeking God, his soul is constantly renewed with light and love. It is true, when you look in his eyes, you can see the great kindness of his soul! I’m thankful for the living example, he is because it encourages me to see that I can do it too!
