Once when I was picked-up to play on a volleyball team I’d never played with before, I had an extremely frustrating experience.  There was no coach, and during the entire tournament, I received conflicting instructions from the other players about my position. I couldn’t play my hardest and, in fact, during most of the tournament I felt like I was just in the way and completely irrelevant to the team.

Have you ever wondered if you are relevant, if you matter, or whether you really make a positive difference?

This experience challenged me to identify my God-given talents and determine whether they were being fully utilized for His glory. I should be constantly assessing whether I’ve focused my life developing talents God has NOT given me; and thus, am wasting time, which could be spent on developing the talent He has given me. God makes us relevant and He created us for an important purpose.

The Bible says: “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place…all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.” (Psalms 139:14-16)

Isn’t that beautiful?

It’s pretty obvious that God didn’t create me to be a linebacker, a rocket scientist, or a green beret, and—although I may admire these abilities in others—I’d definitely be wasting mine if I tried to be like them. When I pursue goals that are the best use of my God-given talent, I live with a rich and powerful purpose. Otherwise, I’m just playing a game where I don’t fit in. God created us all  with the ability to attain achievements which make our lives relevant AND leave an eternal legacy for HIS glory. Follow Him and find it!
