We all want to be loved! Even the most cynical person wants to have someone who gives them all the promises of love. We spend a great deal of our time and money making ourselves beautiful or handsome, educated, rich and athletic, in order to find “true love.” However, will finding “true love” in another person make us as happy as we are when we are showing  true love? The Bible says, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.” (Acts 20:35)

Do we believe this to be true when it comes to our quest to be loved?

We can’t pick and choose which principles or promises in the Bible are truth any more than we can pick and choose which laws of science are true. When we experience God’s love, we trust Him enough to take His Word as absolute truth. We also learn to experience love like He does. For example, when we give to someone who has very little to give, we experience the love that is closest to the heart of God—this is the way He loves us!

When we reach out to a child in foster care, a single parent who needs a break, a lonely service member who needs a home-cooked meal, an elderly person who needs friendship, a teenager who has never been hunting or hiking; we demonstrate God’s endless love. We are surrounded by people who need love and—we have so many opportunities to give it. When we follow the path of giving love without any expectation; God gives us “true love” in ways beyond what we ever imagined! The Bible says: “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.” (1 John‬ ‭4:7-8) ‬‬God IS LOVE, and His promises of love are discovered by loving Him and loving others.
