Every day, each of us has the opportunity to execute one of God’s most important missions.  The Bible says: “Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.” (Isaiah 1:17) It also says we should be a father to the fatherless, a defender of widows, as is God in his holy dwelling. (Psalms 68:5)

Almost every day we meet at least one person who needs help; however, because we are not tuned in, or are not paying attention to the “Father of the fatherless and Defender of widows,” we don’t always become aware of their needs. Often I find myself rushing through my day, focused on my to-do list and not looking through the eyes of God at the people around me. In doing so, I miss opportunities to be a part of God’s amazing plan.

There have been times where God has tapped me on the head and nearly audibly said, “Pay attention.”

I can’t count the times when, after He got my attention, I received the opportunity to be His hands and feet, and thus, receive the great blessing of giving! Irrespective of whether I am giving spiritual encouragement, physical resources, or just simply my time or love—each act of giving is an immeasurable blessing. God knows what people need—and when our life is guided by the heart of Christ, rather than our to-do list, we get in on the blessing. Living in Christ, we never miss an opportunity to make an eternal difference!
