The more I understand God’s goodness, the more I WANT to do what is good. Doing what is good out of fear of punishment does NOT produce permanent change. Doing what is right because we’re in love with God—DOES! The Bible says: “For the Lord God is a sun and shield: the Lord will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly.” (Psalms 84:11) Do we REALLY believe God is so good that He will withhold “no good thing” from us if are good? His Love is one of the good things He gives us, however, we are so blind we don’t always want it!

God has used all kinds of things to teach me about His goodness. For example, when I’ve loved someone who rejected me, He taught me that He will never reject me, thus, I should direct my energy into loving Him. Loving Him is demonstrated in my submission to His way, that is, “walking uprightly.”

The sting of rejection by a man could have made me BITTER, instead it drew me to God—who makes me BETTER and gives me good things!

God displays His goodness to us in so many ways. His goodness is in our beating heart, the sunrise, the way He walks with us through pain, His mercy in our failures and the physical resources He gives us to manage for His glory. When we passionately seek to know Him, we find we are loved like no one has ever loved us! The goodness of His love makes us want to be good!
