One day, I had an interesting client who had managed to wrangle an appointment with me under the guise of needing a will. She was young with no kids, no husband, no assets, and as it turns out, she just wanted to talk with me about some of her personal problems. At first, I was somewhat annoyed, but then God reminded me of how I am supposed to be God’s love to others. This thought completely changed my approach with her, and thankfully, I didn’t miss an opportunity to receive the blessing of giving her God’s love.
Reflecting later on this incident, I was challenged by this thought: If I am going to be God’s love, then I better start thinking like He does! The Bible says:
“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” (Romans 12: 2)
So, will I walk through each day thinking about things of the world, focused on only my earthly goals? Or will I be thinking like God? I don’t pretend to understand the depths of God’s thoughts, because I know His thoughts are far above my mine; however, if I don’t consistently seek Him, I will never know what is inside His mind! As I seek Him, I’m learning to ask Him throughout the day:
“God, how do you want me to handle this situation?”
I truly wish I had started doing this years ago! I don’t like to think about all of the blessings I have missed by my failure to learn to think like God, but today can be different. I can make a decision each day from here on out to renew my mind every morning through prayer and reading His Word; and then—throughout the day—to seek His wisdom and the guidance of His Spirit. Then—I’ll never miss another blessing. Any earthly goals I have for today pales in comparison to God’s plans!
