Do we live in the slavery of fear? Most of us have experienced the slavery of fearing something bad will happen, what people think, that we will fail, etc. The Bible says that “perfect love casts out fear.” (1 John 4:18) So how do we experience this “perfect love?” God is love. To know Him is to know love. He loves us for who we are, not for what He needs from us because He doesn’t NEED anything. When we learn to love Him for who He is, rather than what we want from Him—we begin to experience the kind of perfect love He has for us and it liberates us from fear. How does that work?

Although I don’t pretend to fully understand God’s love, I can share my own experience of loving Him. The better I love Him, the more I know I’m completely loved and protected by Him. He doesn’t fear anyone! His presence gives me security on a level that no wealth, man or firepower can give me! Maybe your daddy is a Federal Judge or your wife is director of the FBI—so you feel safe—but…..

…a relationship with the most powerful human we know, doesn’t compare to the security of knowing God!

So will we choose to live in fear which imprisons us, instead of love which liberates us? Or, will we dedicate time to knowing and loving God more deeply? The Bible: “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”  (2 Timothy 1: 7) Loving God for God gives us complete freedom from fear!
